Unfortunately due to illness we did not make it to Aruba in 2023. Sigh! I miss the sun, surf and sand and of course the wonderful food! We will make up for it in 2024 when we go.

Christmas 2024 – Feeling better by then!

I am Jemsbooks aka Janice Spina, aka J. E. Spina, author, blogger, book reviewer, avid reader, copy editor, and writer of poetry and stories for children of all ages and adults, and supporter of my fellow authors. My talented and handsome husband, John, is my illustrator and cover creator.

I have been writing since the age of nine in the form of poetry with greeting cards. In my twenties I branched off into children’s books, novels and more. Since then, I haven’t stopped writing.

When one of my sports’ poems was published in The Lawrence Eagle Tribune Newspaper in October 2008 my road to writing got serious. From then on, I concentrated on all the stories I had written over the years and enlisted my husband as the illustrator. He was at first reluctant but after working on a few books he began to get more comfortable and knowledgeable.

I didn’t become a published author until 2013. With the grace of God, I will continue to write and my husband will illustrate and create my covers for as long as we possibly can.

Our goal is to encourage all ages to read daily to increase their vocabulary, enhance their creativity, good health and wellbeing, and foster a love of reading that will carry throughout their lifetime. Let’s make the next generation a generation of readers, thinkers and doers.

All our books are available on my Amazon Author page, Barnes & Noble, or by clicking on book covers to the right side of this post, and on Jemsbooks.com. At this time, we have 45 published books (22 children’s books, 12 MG/PT, 2 YA, 9 novels for 18+) with more coming for all ages in 2024 and beyond.

Since I began writing I have branched out into more novels and now fantasy. I love trying something different so as not to get stale in my craft. I also like to have something for all tastes and ages in reading for you to enjoy. Happy Reading everyone!

As you can see by my photos above, we love to vacation in Aruba and hope to continue to do so as long as we can.

Thank you for stopping by and for your continuing support. Being an indie author is a hard road to travel and your help along the way is appreciated!  Drop me a line sometime. I would love to hear from you on my Contact Page or by email at jjspina (at) comcast (dot) net.

Wish me luck!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!

I do children’s books too…and I’ve also just finished a murder mystery. I was just thinking that these were pretty divergent aspects of my personality (murder + kids = yuck!), so I’m relieved to see I’m not the only one. Good luck with your mystery! Wasn’t it wicked fun to write?

    • jjspina says:

Hi Jennifer, yes it was! Thank you so much for stopping by. Hope to see you again. Let’s follow each other. I have written three more novels, not edited yet, a YA fantasy, a spiritual/mystery, and a historical novel. I like to write in different genres. Children’s books are fun too! I love to see my grandchildren reading them and the look of delight on their faces.

  21. J Lapis says:

I’m an automatic fan of anyone who opens the world of books to kids, encouraging them to read voraciously. Reading was my escape as a child, saved me from total meltdown. I must have read Alice in Wonderland nearly 50 times. Going to the library was my favorite “class”!! And when I worked in a library as an adult, gosh it was like being in a candy store–patrons would laugh at me because, in the process of checking out their books for them, I’d be grabbing them and saying, “Oh I want this when you bring it back!!”

    • jjspina says:

Thank you, J Lapis, for your kind words. I, too, always loved going to the library and perusing and touching the books. I loved book stores like that too! Love the smell of the new books and the feel. Now I read on my Nook device and IPad. It just isn’t the same but it is a lot easier.

Nice to meet you. Thank you for stopping by. Hope to see you again. More books always coming along. Blessing to you!

      • J Lapis says:

Oh yes, Book Stores!! I used to spend a fortune….love the feel and smell of those sharp new pages…adds a sensual element to reading that the hi-tech readers just don’t have, sigh.

  24. A pleasure to meet you Janice. We share a passion for writing and blogging it seems. And how wonderful that your husband is an illustrator! I have published two books (historical fiction and spiritual fiction) and I am currently in the process of editing my first children’s book. After self-publishing my last book I have decided not to publish any more without an agent and/or publisher…so that will be my next project, to find one!

    • jjspina says:

Thanks for stopping by, Bev. I am blessed to have a talented husband to work with on my books. Best wishes for your search for a publisher and/or agent. 😀

Thats quite an output too, nice work, and to have your husband as illustrator seems a perfect match.
    Interesting blog you have ☺

Janice, love all of your children’s books! Just read a great review on your latest Davey & Derek one! Your husband’s illustrations are extraordinary! 💛 Christine Elizabeth

  32. lajuani says:

Wow! I’m so glad I have stumbled across your blog. I’m hoping to be inspired and yours looks like the perfect place. I’m definitely keen to check out some of your books. I used to live in Spain teaching English and I was constantly looking for new and interesting books to share with the students. I also have 3 little dogs and I always say I want to create a children’s book, using them s my characters. With a little twist, I’d love to either write the book for Spanish children learning English and if successful do it the other way round…
    Any words of advice? 🙂
Also, I’ve just started (after years and years of saying I would) started reading the Harry Potter books! Fab!

    • jjspina says:

Hi Laulani, so nice to meet you. Thank you for stopping by my blog.

My inspirations are my grandchildren. I love children and want to see them enjoy reading. Writing is one way to inspire children to read. If you just jot down ideas as you watch your pets or children at play it may help you create a story to put into a book. I write in rhyme but books do not have to be in rhyme. You start with a subject and think about what this subject can do and go from there.

My stories just come to me sometimes in a dream or I sit down at the computer and write whatever comes into my head then go over it all again and put it into rhyme.

Harry Potter books are fabulous! I read them all. I haven’t read the newest books about beasts though by J.K. Rowling. She is incredible and someone I look up to and hope one day to emulate.
Good luck! Hope you like my books! 🙂

  33. Marsha says:

You are so prolific, Janice. I can’t imagine how you do it! My blogging friend, Carol Sherrit, (theeternaltraveler.wordpress.com) and I took a course in writing children’s book together online. I’m way too much tell and not enough show. I can’t believe how much some people fit into 300 words, which was always our assignment. 🙂

    • jjspina says:

I’m still learning myself. I am a prolific reader and review over 100 books a year. It’s a wonderful learning process. Thanks for stopping by.😀
