I was recently invited to my daughter’s and another teacher’s fifth grade classrooms (50 students in all) to read to their kids from my Davey & Derek Junior Detective Series! I think I had as much fun or maybe more than the boys and girls. I read a chapter from books 1 & 2, The Case of the Missing Cell Phone and The Case of the Mysterious Black Cat.
After reading and taking questions I played an interactive sentence game with them. In this game each student had to write a word on a piece of paper (parts of speech) and raise their hands to come up to the front of the class to form a sentence. I was the article (the). The class would tell the participating students where to move in order to make a sentence.
It was a good time for all and the students learned how much fun it is to write. The boys and girls were eager to play and a few said afterwards they wanted to become writers and authors. That was music to my ears!
I hope to visit again next year! Of course I left two of each book with the teachers to share with their classrooms.
It is important to read to children of all ages and let them read to you! It is a wonderful and rewarding experience that enriches all involved.
Please read this summer and encourage your children to read too!
I would love to hear from you in the form of a review. I will post reviews here. Help your children to write reviews. They will love to see their words in print here and on Amazon or Barnes & Noble or other places where you purchase. If you wish take a photo of your children reading Jemsbooks or even yourself. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your photos and reviews.
Reading Gives You Wings to Fly!
Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings & Hugs!
