I would like to share with all of you these unique stories, Charlene the Star, and Hattie’s Heroes, written by author Deanie Humphrys-Dunne.  These books are about horses written from the horses’ point of view if horses could talk.  The author weaves a story about the main character, Charlene the Star who is from a long line of champion race horses.  Charlene has a mind of her own and does not want to be a race horse.  The2013-04-17 21.44.42 stories  involve what race horses have to do in order to become champions and how they need support and friends to be successful in their endeavors.  Children will love Charlene and cheer for her as she follows her dream.  Illustration at right is from the book.

Charlene the Star is the first book of the series followed by Hattie’s Heroes.  Charlene has horse friends Ann, Blossom and Lily who encourage her to pursue her dreams.  There are also other endearing characters who play important roles in the horses’ lives,  Elliott, the dog with the large head, Hattie, the chicken, and Wooliam, the sheep.  They share adventures along the way.   The author weaves a story in such a way as to teach children how to treat one another with kindness and respect and not to single any one out because of diversity.

The book covers are illustrated by the author’s sister, Holly Humphrys-Bajaj who is a talented artist.  She created a beautiful picture of the characters on each cover which are very life like, colorful and stunning.  There are a couple more illustrations within the books that are in black and white.  Look for more of these books at Avid Readers Publishing Company and Tate Publishing for Charlene the Star 2.
